Napa Valley Herald

The Napa Valley Herald was started because we believe there's a need for a way to connect the members of the progressive community scattered throughout the Napa Valley.

A place where people can post information on local political and governmental events, lectures, films and fund-raisers.

A location where activists and observers can post news, articles and commentary of interest to others.

A place for those who believe that there are other perspectives and solutions to pressing issues than those seen in our out-of-state owned newspaper chain (four papers in four cities including the valley's only daily) or heard on our single AM radio station.

What is Drinking Liberally?

An informal, inclusive progressive social group. Raise your spirits while you raise your glass, and share ideas while you share a pitcher. Drinking Liberally gives like-minded, left-leaning individuals a place to talk politics. You don't need to be a policy expert and this isn't a book club - just come and learn from peers, trade jokes, vent frustration and hang out in an environment where it's not taboo to talk politics.

Bars are democratic spaces - you talk to strangers, you share booths, you feel the bond of common ground. Bring democratic discourse to your local democratic space - build democracy one drink at a time.

While drinking liberally, always remember to drink responsibly, and make liberal use of designated drivers. Drinking and driving is reckless and irresponsible, like a neocon war or corporatist tax cut. Liberals, don't do it.

Cost: Only for what you drink or eat.
Membership dues: None

Email From Napa Rotary Club

Hello friends, family, neighbors (past and present), strangers, and people I want as friends.

Please read thru- feel free to pass on to others too- it’s a great cause-

One of the Napa Rotary Club's community projects for 2007-08 is to start a program at the Vets Home in Yountville that will support veterans of the war in Iraq who will be housed there while suffering from Post Traumatic Stress Disorder (PTSD). The program will work with a group of about 40 returning California veterans (including in some cases their families) who will spend between 30 and 120 days in structured programs at the Veterans Home.

We intend to provide support and a sense of community for these veterans in various forms. Some plans include the purchase of a large screen hi-def TV with surround-sound, hosting BBQ events at the Home for the bigger sporting events, bus trips to watch professional baseball games, dinners at our member’s homes, etc.  We also hope to help these veterans find jobs when they return to their communities. The possibilities are many and are limited only by the amount of money we can raise through our fundraising

Here's where you come in - we are offering a once in a life time experience for a lucky couple for only $50.00; one lucky couple will win a personalized trip for two to the Napa Valley, including round trip air fare, from anywhere, limo to and from the airport, hotel, meals, oh and a ton of great wine.  Please consider buying a ticket for yourself (the most important person on this list!!), and then buy for business associates, family, friends, neighbors,  people you hardly know;  then pass the word to your email list so they can join this wonderful opportunity.

If you are a local and don't think you need to buy a ticket, think about what a great gift this would be to a friend or relative. Also think about the fact that the Napa Rotary Club uses these proceeds to support other local projects as well, such as New Tech High, local student scholarships, local Kids Camps, Connolly ranch, Quarterly Student recognition awards and much more. We also support international polio eradication, cleft palate repair projects in Central America and many worthy projects in the economically depressed areas of Mexico.

Please consider buying a ticket; If you win, you will have a once in a life time experience….and you will be helping Napa Rotary do some wonderful things for our veterans and for children in Napa and elsewhere.  Thank you for taking the time to review and participating in this event!

For tickets please contact me or click on this link for an order form.

See http://www.naparotary.org/local-projects.html   for the details. If you have other friends who might be interested in helping with this project, please pass this Email along to them. If you live in Napa, please consider purchasing and sending a ticket to some friends who would like to visit you here in our beautiful area.

Thanks for your time and consideration!
